Natural tanzanite valued by WM Gold Exchange

Tanzanite has a special place in the South African market — it's mined next door in Tanzania and has been hugely popular here for decades, which means there's always demand for good stones. Whether yours is loose, in a ring, a pendant or a pair of earrings, we buy tanzanite in all sizes and grades, and we'll explain our valuation step by step.

What we look at

Tanzanite is graded heavily on colour — the deeper and more saturated the violet-blue, the stronger the price. We assess the depth of colour, clarity, cut and carat weight in front of you. Larger stones over five carats with top colour are especially sought after, but smaller commercial-grade stones are welcome too.

Questions we are asked about tanzanite

Is tanzanite actually valuable?

Yes — good tanzanite is a genuinely valuable gemstone, and top-colour stones have held their worth well. Even lighter grades have a steady market in South Africa.

Do you buy tanzanite still set in jewellery?

We do. Most of the tanzanite we buy is set in rings and pendants, and we value the stone and the gold together so you get the full worth of the piece.
