Natural sapphires valued by WM Gold Exchange

Sapphires never really go out of fashion, and natural blue sapphires in particular are always easy to place. We buy loose sapphires, sapphire engagement rings, and older sapphire jewellery of every era — including fancy colours like yellow, pink and padparadscha. Send us a few photos and we'll come back with a clear, no-obligation figure.

What we look at

For blue sapphires, a rich royal or cornflower blue with good transparency earns the strongest prices. We look at colour zoning, clarity, cut quality and size, and whether the stone has been heat treated — a standard and accepted practice that we simply account for honestly. Ceylon and other notable origins can add a premium.

Questions we are asked about sapphires

Do you buy sapphires that aren't blue?

Absolutely. Yellow, pink, purple and padparadscha sapphires are all natural sapphires and all have buyers. Send photos and we'll value them.

My sapphire looks dark — is it worth anything?

Often, yes. Many darker sapphires still have solid value, and we'll always test and weigh the stone before giving you a straight answer.
