Natural emeralds valued by WM Gold Exchange

Natural emeralds are one of the few coloured stones that hold their value year after year, and good ones are always in demand. Whether it's a single loose stone, an emerald ring you no longer wear, or an inherited piece you're unsure about, send us clear photos and we'll give you an honest, obligation-free assessment the same day.

What we look at

Colour is king with emeralds — a rich, vivid green with good saturation is worth far more than a pale or overly dark stone. We also weigh up clarity (most emeralds have natural inclusions, and that's expected), the quality of the cut, carat weight, and any signs of origin such as Colombian or Zambian material. Oiling is common and doesn't disqualify a stone; we simply factor it in openly.

Questions we are asked about emeralds

Do you buy emeralds with visible inclusions?

Yes. Almost every natural emerald has inclusions — they're part of the stone's character and proof it's natural. We value the stone as a whole rather than disqualifying it.

My emerald is chipped or the setting is damaged — is it still worth selling?

In most cases, yes. A chipped stone can often be re-cut or re-polished, and the gold in a damaged setting carries its own value too.
