Carat (purity)
Pure gold is 24ct. Jewellery is mixed with other metals to make it stronger. The higher the carat, the more gold it holds.
- 9ct: about 37.5% gold
- 14ct: about 58.5% gold
- 18ct: about 75% gold
- 22ct: about 91.6% gold
Weight
Gold is weighed in grams. Heavy chains and bangles are worth more than light rings. Stones and non gold parts are taken into account.
When it is worth more than scrap
